Ceramic Tiles

Ceramic tiles are generally made from a mixture of water, sand and clay. They are thin, hard, flat pieces made from clay, sand and water. Ceramic tiles are often used to cover floors and walls. The clay mixture is shaped, dried and then fired in a kiln at high temperatures to harden it.

What are the Types of Ceramic Tiles?

Ceramic tiles come in three types. That are glazed tiles, wall tiles and floor tiles.

  • Glazed Tiles: Glazed ceramic tiles are covered with a protective finish that can vary from matte to glossy. Matte coatings match natural stone designs and work well for most applications. Glossy ceramic tiles have a smooth surface that gives an area a polished look. Glossy coatings are suitable for wall installations.
  • Wall Tiles: Wall tiles are used in many different kinds of applications including showers, backsplashes and accent walls. With their various tile designs, wall tiles can offer an amazing design element to a room.
  • Floor Tiles: Ceramic floor tiles tend to have a matte appearance. When you select a ceramic tile that you like, make sure to inquire whether it is suitable for floor installation. Ceramic tile can be incredibly durable when used as a floor tile.

Best Places to Use Ceramic Tiles for Home

  • Ceramic tiles are waterproof which make them an ideal choice for any bathroom or shower cubicle.
  • These tiles are also popular in kitchens since they are non-absorbent and easy to clean. You can see them in appealing backsplash combinations.
  • When properly taken care of and maintained, ceramic tile is durable enough for outdoor usage in patios, decks and courtyards.
